Sign up for the next Spectrum webinar with Laurent Mottron, Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Montreal in Canada. He will discuss his June 2021 comment in Autism Research on why we need “a radical change in our autism research strategy.” Because the diagnosis of autism is based on “vague criteria,” he says, studies currently use participants who may only share a “trivial similarity”, which can lead to inaccurate study results. Experienced clinicians should select research participants who “are more representative of the ‘prototype’ autism,” says Mottron.
