Palmer named presidential scholar: Paige Arden Palmer of Lancaster, a junior majoring in civil engineering, was named a presidential scholar (3.8 GPA or higher) for the fall 2021 semester at Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY

Haase makes dean’s list: Daniel Haase, a junior actuarial science major from Fort Mill, made the dean’s list (3.00-3.74 GPA) for the fall 2021 semester at Bob Jones University in Greenville.

Garner makes dean’s list: Makayla Garner of Fort Mill made the dean’s list (3.5 or higher GPA) for the fall 2021 semester at Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tenn.

Bravo, Massey make dean’s list: Isabella Bravo of Lancaster and Grace Massey of Kershaw qualified for the fall 2021 dean’s list (3.5 GPA) at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn.

Cook makes dean’s list: Genevieve Cook of Van Wyck was named to the fall 2021 dean’s list (3.7 or higher GPA) at Emerson College in Boston, Mass. She is majoring in writing, lit and publishing and is a member of the class of 2024.

Four make Alabama honors lists: Four Lancaster County students made the honors lists for the fall 2021 term at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Priya Gilman of Indian Land was named to the president’s list (4.0 GPA). Carson Cross of Lancaster and Taylor Vander Horn and Bryce Vander Horn, both of Indian Land, were named to the dean’s list (3.5 or higher GPA).

Apply now for Horizon Education Grant: The Arras Foundation is taking applications for Horizon Education Grants through Feb. 1. Teachers can apply for two grants each year, one classroom grant of up to $500 and one multi-educator grant of up to $2,000. Awards are made by youth philanthropy volunteers. Music or arts scholarship: The Josh Turner Scholarship Fund For The Arts is accepting scholarship applications through Feb. 1. It is open to high school seniors from South Carolina wishing to enter the music business or undertake a career in the arts. It is intended to support students primarily from rural areas. Applications are at www.cfmt.org/grants-scholarships.

Discovery School: Lancaster County’s only free public charter school is accepting applications for the 2022-23 school year. Applications are available on the school’s website at https://dis.lancastercsd.com/ or by visiting Discovery School at 302 W Dunlap St., Lancaster. Discovery School is a former recipient of the National Charter School of the Year Award.

Governor’s School preview day: The Governor’s School for Science + Mathematics (GSSM) will hold a preview day for prospective high school sophomores and their families 9 am-2 pm Feb. 5 at 401 Railroad Ave., Hartsville. Register online at www.scgssm.org/previewday. Spaces are limited.

GSSM offers after-school program: The SC Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) is accepting applications for its free after-school program, SPARK!, designed to inspire an early interest in and awareness of STEAM studies. In a series of after-school workshops, sixth- though eighth-graders follow their interests to learn the science or math concepts behind daily questions or curiosities. The activities in chemistry, biology, mathematics, physics and more are designed for middle school students and taught by GSSM students. Students can select any or all workshops to attend. There will be a combination of both virtual and in-person sessions 4:15-5:30 pm February-March. Spaces are limited to 20 students per virtual session and 15 per in-person session. Lancaster Soil and Water Conservation District scholarships: The district is offering two $750 scholarships to high school seniors who live in Lancaster County. Applicants must plan to attend a fully accredited college, university or technical college. The Bill Ardrey Forestry Scholarship will go to a student who plans to pursue a forestry-related major. Glenn Alexander Memorial Scholarship applicants prefer majoring in an agricultural- or environmental-related field, but it is not a requirement. Applications for both scholarships are available at www.lancaster swcd.com (click the education program link), or call 803-286-4455, ext. 100, for a copy. The deadline to apply for either is 3 pm March 28.

Apply now for scholarships: The Foundation for the Carolinas is accepting applications for 2022 scholarships. The foundation manages more than 150 scholarship programs, offering a variety of annual scholarships established by gifts made by generous families and individuals, corporations and nonprofit organizations to provide educational opportunities for deserving students. Scholarship awards range from $500 to $10,000. Application deadline for most scholarships is in early March. District offers disability screening: The Lancaster County School District’s Child Find program seeks out those with disabilities, ages 3-21, who need special help to be able to receive a free, appropriate public education. If there appears to be a delay in any area of ​​your child’s development — even if he or she is not yet school-aged — contact the district’s Student Services Department at 803-285-8439 to arrange screening and evaluation. Preschool programming for children with special needs provides early intervention services and might prevent some developmental disabilities from becoming more severe.

Free lunches for all: Lancaster School District is providing free school lunches for all students who sign up for them. Free/reduced lunch applications must be completed by all who wish to receive them, so the district’s food services can track the program this year. The application is available at https://family.titank12.com or on the district website, lancastercsd.com, under Applications or the Meals tab. No lunch visitors are allowed at schools.
