Three CCU graduates: Three local students graduated from Coastal Carolina University during their personal opening ceremony in the summer of 2021 on August 6th. They were Madeleine Haring, a communications student from Lancaster, and Joshua Blevins, a leisure and sports management major, and Jhyques Thomas, a management major, both from Indian Land.
LEAP board meeting: The Lancaster Educational Assistance Program (LEAP) Board of Directors will meet in person on December 7th at 2:30 pm. The meeting will be held at the Lancaster County School District Office, 300 S. Catawba St., Lancaster.
Bill Ardrey Forest Scholarship: The Lancaster Soil and Water Conservation District is now accepting applications for the $ 750 Ardrey Forestry Scholarship from high school graduates residing in Lancaster County.
“Bill has spent 42 years promoting conservation and conservation education in Lancaster County and the state of South Carolina. It is a privilege for the Conservation District to honor Bill with this scholarship. This scholarship will continue Bill’s legacy in training our future conservationists in Lancaster County, ”said Joe Ghent, chairman of LSWCD. “Over the years, he has received awards and recognitions from Lancaster County, the SC Department of Natural Resources, the SC Association of Conservation Districts, and the Southeast National Association of Conservation Districts.”
“We appreciate his countless efforts for the board of directors, the district and the partnership. He encourages Lancaster County’s citizens to be good stewards of the land. His willingness to serve the public and educate them about natural resources is a great example of his commitment. When he was inducted into the SENACD Hall of Fame in 2015, he received one of the highest honors as a commissioner, ”said Amanda Roberts, LSWCD district manager.
Applicants must plan to attend a fully fledged college, university or technical college and pursue a degree in forestry.

Glenn Alexander Memorial Scholarship: The Lancaster Soil and Water Conservation District is now accepting applications for the $ 750 Glenn Alexander Memorial Scholarship from high school graduates living in Lancaster County.
The LSWCD set up this scholarship in recognition of Glenn Alexander’s 57 years of service in the nature reserve and his commitment to the district.
Applicants must plan to attend a fully accredited college, university, or technical college. The conservation district prefers that the recipient study an agricultural or environmental subject such as agricultural education, agriculture, agricultural engineering, agronomy, biology, forestry, horticulture, soil or wildlife management, but this is not a requirement.

Free lunch for everyone: The Lancaster School District is offering a free school lunch to all students who sign up for it. Free / discounted lunch requests must be completed by anyone who wishes to receive them in order for the district’s fine dining to follow this year’s program. The application is available at https://family.titank12.com or on the district website lancaster csd.com under Applications or the Meals tab. No lunchtime visitors are allowed in the schools.
District offers disability screening: The Lancaster County School District’s Child Find program seeks out people with disabilities, ages 3-21, who need special assistance to receive free and adequate public education. If there are delays in any area of your child’s development – even if they are not yet of compulsory schooling – contact the district’s student union at 803-285-8439 to arrange a screening and assessment. Preschool programs for children with special needs provide early intervention services and can prevent some developmental disorders from becoming more severe.
