KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 30 – Department of Education (MOE) educational facilities in Selangor, Melaka, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya will reopen on Oct. 4 based on operations scheduled for states in phase two of the National Recovery Plan (PPN).
The MOE said in a statement today that if a state moves to the next phase, the operation of educational institutions under the MOE under the new phase will not be implemented until two weeks after the date of transition.
On September 29, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Selangor and Melaka would move to phase three and Kedah to phase two with effect from October 1.
“Educational institutions in these states (Selangor, Melaka, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya) will therefore begin operating on October 18, in accordance with the provisions of the third phase of the PPN.
“This includes an increase in the enrollment of other students including preschoolers, boarding / day / private school public exam classes, International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBD), Malaysian Sports School Pre-University and other international exam classes,” the statement added.
The second phase measures, meanwhile, will involve pupils with special needs in the special needs primary school, special needs secondary school, special needs vocational secondary school and the integrated special needs program.
This also applies to students of the Form 6 Second Semester, International Baccalaureate Diploma Year Two, Third Semester of Pre-University Program in the Malaysian Sports School and students of international examination classes (IGCSE O-Level, A-Level, Australia Higher School Certificate and IBDP).
Educational institutions under the MOE in Kedah will reopen on October 10 for Form Six Second Semester classes and international exam classes (IGCSE O-Level), while the operation planned for Phase 2 of the PPN, including for vocational schools, will not commence until October 17.
The MOE said the reopening of educational facilities in Sarawak’s southern zone would still come on Oct. 4, based on operations set for states in phase two under the PPN.
This follows the announcement by the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee regarding the transition of the southern zone of Sarawak to Phase 3 of the PPN effective October 1, but operations scheduled for Phase 3 of the PPN will not begin until October 18.
However, the MOE said that all its jurisdiction educational institutions located in Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) areas will be closed during the entire enforcement period.
Therefore, all students in the affected areas must follow the Home Teaching and Learning (PdPR) method, it said.
