This viral TikTok reveals a secret method to burp a child—and we’re FLOORED
Midwives say it’s the best way to do it, and it involves no back pats. Why don’t more people know this?!
Everyone seems to have an opinion on the best way to burp a baby. There are even people who say burping is not necessary at all!
If you’ve tried a few different ways and it still takes a while for your baby to burp after a feed, you’ll definitely want to see this video by a mom on TikTok. She saw a technique on TikTok herself, then tried it out. Her results pretty much blew us away (and we’ve seen everything!).
Meredith Reyes (@mrsstringy) posted a video with the following caption: “One of the best things I’ve seen on TikTok is how to burp a baby.” She demonstrates this technique with her daughter on her lap. Check out the video here.
@mrsstringy Goodbye back pats. This works every time & makes her burp like a full-grown man. #momsoftiktok #babiesoftiktok #babyhack ♬ original sound – Meredith Reyes
The caption reads: “Goodbye back pats. This works every time & makes her burp like a full-grown man.” If you were hesitant about this technique from the start, Reyes’s amazed reaction at the end should be enough to convince you!
The technique breaks down like this:
First, hold your baby on your lap, making sure they are facing either your right or your left side.
Next, hold one of your hands against their back to keep their posture straight, and place the other hand under their chin so their airway is open.
The last step is easy: Sit back and witness a big, satisfying burp!
It almost seems too good to be true! How did this happen with no back patting?! And why is this method not more well-known?!
Skeptical? The comments section proves this method works. “Omg!! I just tried it with my newborn who is impossible to burp and it worked!” says one commenter. “I just did this outta curiosity and omg within seconds!!” says another.
On the other hand, many comments prove that while effective, this method definitely isn’t unknown. “My son had acid reflux and this is the only burp that ever worked helped” said one person. And as always, the midwives know what’s up: “I’m a midwife and this is what we teach people. It works. Backpats do nothing lol.”
So there you go. Forget the back pats—it’s all about sitting them up straight and opening their airway. Share this story with your new-parent friends, and let us know how it works for your wee one!
