Serving to Siblings in a Household with ADHD
Siblings argue – we wish it hadn’t happened, but sometimes we can’t do anything. Or is there?
This week, guest expert Roya Kravetz shares some of the best ways to help children find their way around, especially siblings in a family with ADHD.
Guidelines for sibling harmony
Get to the root
Sometimes a fight is just a fight. But most of the time there is a deeper problem at play. For example, a dispute over a stuffed animal can actually be a contest for attention. Kravetz says that finding the core problems is key to resolving disputes and avoiding future disputes. “We have to define it in order to deal with it. We have to get to the bottom of the problem. “
Understand
According to Kravetz, there can be a lot of misunderstandings in a family with ADHD. Sometimes children don’t really have an idea of the challenges faced by their complex siblings. “Understanding is key, because until we understand, there is nothing we can do.” Powerful things can happen when siblings understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses.
