U.S. Representative Susan Wild visits Monroe County to highlight a local high school that goes way beyond that for her special needs students.
East Stroudsburg South High School offers a program that gives students with special needs an insight into the responsibility that comes with living independently in a sheltered environment. They use a “Life Skills Apartment” that helps them develop useful tools, such as doing laundry or preparing simple meals.
“I think it’s a really great program and seeing the apartment is especially nice because it really resembles a home and something like that can really arouse interest and motivation in the students,” said Wild.
Wild says she praises the school district for efforts to prepare children for life after high school.
