YPSILANTI, MI – In the Achieving College & Career Education building at Ypsilanti Community Schools, there’s a running joke that when someone needs to check into a student’s mother, aunt, or grandmother, they just have to find Carla Whitsett.
That’s because Whitsett’s relationships with students and families have continuously extended beyond the classroom and into the community in her 23 years as a paraprofessional in the district, said ACCE teacher Lauren Fardig-Diop.
