Letter to the Editor | West Bend College District ought to supply unbiased training | By Melanie Ehrgott
My family moved to West Bend two years ago and as a conservative mother of five young children, one of whom has special needs, I feel a lot needs to be done to make this a district that parents like me feel comfortable in to send their children. I believe it is the job of parents and families to instill values in their children and schools should provide an impartial education.
I believe in curriculum transparency where parents can see exactly what their children are learning. The District has removed some very inappropriate materials discovered in the Social and Emotional Learning curriculum, but what else has crept under the radar? I believe all current curriculum, digital and library materials should be reviewed to remove content that is not age appropriate or promotes ideologies that may go against traditional family values. Extra-curricular materials should be approved before they are brought into the classroom. It is important to preserve the innocence of our children.
I believe if we focus more on important issues like literacy and math and less on controversial issues, we can improve test scores and set students up for success. Teachings about social justice, justice, and racial stereotypes cause more division and distract from what’s important. We cannot educate the next generation to think only one way. We must teach them to think for themselves or we will destroy the very freedoms our great country fought for.

* Trolling: A troll is a person who sows discord on the internet by starting fights or upsetting people by posting inflammatory,[1] irrelevant or off-topic posting in an online community (e.g., a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the intent to provoke readers into an emotional response[2] or otherwise disrupt normal, on-topic discussion,[3] often for the amusement of the troll.
