They are both grown up now, but as children they always loved Christmas and lights. The holidays can be overwhelming for just about anyone, especially people with autism who can suffer from overstimulation. The lighting enabled her boys to enjoy the celebrations from the comfort of their own home.
Although her boys are grown up now, it won’t be any different this year.

Last year they distributed 40,000 candy canes to people who visited their lights and this year they expect more people to show up so they are prepared with 75,000 candy canes.
The special thing about this year is that the Burkman family is collecting donations for a local girl named Liyana who has epilepsy.

“She had multiple brain surgeries,” Jennifer Burkman told Fox 4 News. “The reason we chose her wasn’t just because of her health, however. In fact, when she was 12 she set up a foundation to collect toys for children in hospitals. “
Burkman can’t wait to see all of their visitors and raise funds for a good cause.

Burkman says that they will continue their extravagant light show every year “until the Lord decides that I can no longer do it”.
