GreaterGood Charities Gives Provides and Assist to Individuals and Pets After Devastating Tornadoes
A series of unprecedented weather events occurred in six US states on the night of December 10th and through December 11th. At least 30 tornadoes landed in various parts of Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, Mississippi, and Tennessee, leaving unspeakable havoc.
Kentucky was hit particularly hard; One of the tornadoes there, which originated in Arkansas, was on the ground for almost two hours and traveled more than 320 miles, the longest distance a tornado has ever traveled. It killed dozens of people and created a trail of appalling destruction, including flattening an Amazon warehouse and a large candle factory before being lifted off the ground again. The tornado, which was at least an EF-3 but possibly as high as an EF-5, reached wind speeds in excess of 200 miles per hour.

Several dozen people have been confirmed to have been killed and dozens more people are still missing. More than a thousand houses were destroyed. Rescue workers search for survivors in the rubble.
The Kentucky governor has declared a state of emergency and calls it “one of the darkest days in the state’s history”.

GreaterGood Charities is already on the ground in Mayfield, Kentucky and other tornado-hit areas, providing help where it is needed most. We called backpacks, SOS Packs or Good Packs, delivered to those who have lost everything. These packs contain socks, deodorant, a blanket, a toothbrush and other essentials.
GreaterGood Charities also helps with natural disasters by evacuating pets and sending relief supplies for the animals that have stayed behind. Shelters are currently inundated with pets that have been abandoned or lost during catastrophic storms and shelters have no space to take them all in. We are planning emergency transportation to move pets to places where animal shelters can accommodate them to make room for newcomers.

60 cats have already been evacuated, but there are so many more in need of help. Our current goal is to fully evacuate all animals that were in the Mayfield Graves Animal Shelter prior to the natural disasters and move them to the shelters with more space and resources for them. This will make room for more displaced pets in Kentucky waiting to be reunited with their families.

We also bring deliveries of pet food, pharmaceutical products, bedding, and other essentials to feed and care for the animals in need that come to these busy shelters.
GreaterGood Charities has responded to inquiries from our local partners and has awarded grants valued at thousands of dollars. We are ready to provide emergency cash grants to first responders and other organizations to help them with the relief efforts.

In the near future, we have plans to help people rebuild while they recover from this natural disaster. We will be helping the Mayfield Graves Animal Shelter repair areas of the shelter that were damaged during the tornado, along with other animal shelters and organizations that were badly hit by these storms.
