FDA Votes To Suggest Magic Grits for Youngsters 5 – 11

A smaller dose of Pfizer-BioNTech’s Covid-19 vaccine cleared its first regulatory hurdle for use in young children on Tuesday after an advisory committee to the Food and Drug Administration voted to approve it for emergency approval for anyone aged 5 and over Recommended up to 11 years of age voting with one abstention will now go to the FDA, which will make a final decision in the coming days. If approved, the move would call almost the entire US population into question for a Covid vaccination. Only children aged 4 years and younger remain ineligible. This not-so-surprising news (the Pfizer market has just grown by 28,000,000 customers) reminded me of a conversation I had with my eldest daughter’s pediatrician in 1997 when I asked him to give her the varicella vaccine (chickenpox) administer. He told me the vaccine was “too new” and he wasn’t going to give it. The vaccine was approved by ACIP in 1995, after DECADES in manufacture and YEARS of testing. Quaint, yes? Recommendations are quickly converted into pediatric school timetables.

Remember that scene from My Cousin Vinny when he was using grits to create a timeline? No self-respecting southerner would eat instant semolina. Grits, like Italian polenta, take time to stir on the stove. Will there be self-respecting pediatricians or FDA advisors in 2021? No, and you can kiss MY grits …..

Below is a YouTube recording of yesterday’s FDA meeting.
