California Governor Gavin Newsom announced the country’s first coronavirus vaccination mandate for school children on Friday
DisneyLand measles was the Trojan horse. In it, Covid. When my oldest was 2 years old, I asked her pediatrician to give her the varicella vaccine for chickenpox. He told me, “No, it’s too new.” I was mad at him. I have the notes in her baby book. A book that led to nothing but visits to specialist and grand mal seizure cards. If parents want to choose the CoVax for their children, they need to meet with their doctor. Promoting a product that is still experimental, with barely a year of data in a completely different population than school enrollment, is not at all surprising as California is the leading state for vaccine mandates.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – California Governor Gavin Newsom announced Friday the country’s first coronavirus vaccination mandate for schoolchildren, mandating that all elementary through high school students receive the vaccinations once the vaccine receives final U.S. government approval for various Age groups.
The government has fully approved the COVID-19 vaccine for anyone ages 16 and older, but only issued emergency clearance for anyone 12-15. Once federal agencies fully approve it for this group, the state will require students in seventh through twelfth grades to be vaccinated in both public and private schools. Newsom said it anticipates that requirement will be in effect by July 1.
California will require the COVID-19 vaccine for students in kindergarten through sixth grade after receiving final federal approval for children ages 5-11.
“We want to end this pandemic. We’re all exhausted from it, ”the Democratic governor told reporters from a middle school in San Francisco.
The announcement comes because infections have decreased significantly in most parts of California over the past month. Newsom was given encouragement after easily defeating a recall attempt last month following a campaign emphasizing its commitment to vaccine mandates to end the pandemic.
In Los Angeles County – the largest county in the country, populating more than 10 million people – only 1.7% of people tested for the virus have it, and the daily infections are lower than last month, when most kids were back to school Half decreased.
“Those numbers are astonishingly low, with more than 3,000 schools open across the country,” said the county health director Barbara Ferrer on Thursday.
She found that while the number of school outbreaks has increased slightly in recent weeks, the overall number is small and largely related to youth sports.
The state vaccination mandate for school children would come into effect in the semester after the final approval by the federal government. If it comes in January, the mandate would come into force in July.
Students would be granted religious and medical exemptions, but the rules for how the state would apply them had not yet been written. Anyone who refuses the vaccine must complete an independent study at home.
Previously, Newsom had left the decision on vaccination mandates for students to the local school districts, resulting in a multitude of different orders in some of the largest counties in the state. Five districts in California have their own requirements, including Los Angeles, the country’s second largest school district, due to go into effect in January.
Newsom’s plan does not override these districts’ plans as school districts can “accelerate” the requirements.
Dr. Peter N. Bretan, president of the California Medical Association, said the organization “strongly” supports the governor’s decision.
“This is not a new idea. We already need vaccines against several known deadly diseases before students can enroll in schools, ”he said. “The Newsom administration is merely expanding existing public health protections to cover this new disease that has caused so much pain and suffering in our state, nation, and around the world over the past 18 months.”
Newsom is proud to be the first in the country to issue a wide variety of pandemic-related school mandates.
In August, California became the first state to require all teachers and staff in public and private K-12 schools to get vaccinated or have weekly COVID-19 tests. Newsom also issued a school mask mandate for indoor classes earlier this summer that applies to all teachers and students. Source: AP News.
