Artist Sends Teen With Autism A Butterfly Machine That Helped Him Say A New Phrase

A video of a non-verbal teen went viral showing the teen watching a butterfly machine at an art exhibition. The teenage boy Odin was so interested in the machine that he said a new word: butterfly.

After the video went viral, the artist who created the machine, JC Fontanive, actually reached out to the family to see if he could send Odin a gift.

As the Frost family shared on Instagram, they were expecting an art print or card.

However, when the gift arrived, they were shocked to find that Fontanive had sent an entire butterfly machine!

Said:

“We were shocked and moved to tears.

That night we just lay in bed and looked at each other and snuggled together. Now it stands in front of our house and is the first thing people see when they walk in. Such a great conversation starter and room calmer. “

Fontanive manufactures the butterfly machines by hand. According to his website, it started in 2004 when he was studying art in London. He created a flip art machine from parts of old Victorian clocks.

He originally designed the machine to show hummingbirds, but eventually branched out into butterflies.

He hand-paints every card that goes into the machine and does all of the metalwork and assemblies by hand.

Watch the video below to see how Odin enjoys his job and receives the generous gift in the mail:
